Assessment teams analyse a given election process. They fulfil analytical tasks, such as review of the legal framework, analysis of the work of the election administration, analysis of the political context and media analysis. Election assessment teams cover countries where governmental European actors (EU, OSCE) do not deploy observation missions, including in non-recognised entities.

Assessment reports offer recommendations to the relevant government, the international community, etc. DRI has endorsed the UN-sponsored Declaration of Principles on n International Election Observation and the Code of Conduct for International Election Observers of 2005.
