Focus on the elections
DRI conducted four workshops in November to support partner NGOs in their observation of the landmark parliamentary elections. Furthermore, DRI briefed and de-briefed diplomats who followed the electoral process. In a 17 November briefing paper (English/Arabic), DRI argued that the election commission should increase the election’s transparency.
The Constitutional Reform Debate
DRI met with NGOs to discuss the constitutional reform plans. The lack of clarity and continuing controversy about the reform process does not provide a conducive environment for civil society involvement. DRI published an OpEd and a briefing paper highlighting the importance of super-majority requirements in constitutional reforms.
