The Programme
Democracy Reporting International set up its Cairo office in 2011 on the basis of an 18-month programme Support to Democratisation in Egypt, funded by the European Union. The programme aims to support Egyptian civil society organisations (CSOs) in their responses to the country’s transition to democracy. The programme is designed to facilitate CSO capacity building, knowledge-transfer and sharing experiences from other transitions. Programme activities include holding workshops, brainstorming sessions and targeted trainings, depending on the nature of the support requested by local partners. Working closely with Egyptian CSOs, the programme also focuses on monitoring the reforms, providing expert analysis and reporting on critical issues to key domestic stakeholders and the Egyptian public.
Support to Egyptian Civil Society Organisations (csos)
Democracy Reporting International supports Egyptian CSOs’ capacities to effectively respond to their transition to democracy. The programme aims to offer expertise on democratic standards, specific areas of reform (such as electoral systems, electoral laws, constitutional reforms) and share experiences from other transitions. Activities include conducting discussion panels, workshops, brainstorming sessions, trainings, and so on, as local partners determine these needs.
Providing Analysis and Reporting
Working in close cooperation with civil society organisations (CSOs), Democracy Reporting International provides expert analysis of the political reforms and reports on these issues to key domestic stakeholders and the Egyptian public.
On the basis of background material, briefing papers and information brochures that are produced in conjunction with local CSO partners, Democracy Reporting International seeks to raise awareness and enable Egyptian CSOs to pursue focused lobbying and advocacy activities.
